Let's Play Catch-up!

Time is seriously flying by. Where's the pause button? We seem to be on fast-forward lately. One of the reasons I wanted to start blogging was to have a journal for our family to review, for years to come ~ a sort of online diary. However, no journaling has taken place for well over two months, and now there's the Eggman and I have an almost-10-week old in our home. But I'm getting ahead of myself ...

Please join me, as I turn back the calendar a couple of months ...

Mid-July in our house looked something like this:
Lil Chick's room: not finished
Baby showers: just had the last one
Closed-toed shoes: not fitting
... oh yeah, and have I mentioned it was hotter than hot here!

Friday, 7.16.10 11am: Elevated blood pressure at my routine 37-week doc appt (150/110 and  I'm usually a 115/65 kind-of-girl. Apparently the bottom number should not be over 80).
  • 12pm: doc admitted me into the hospital for monitoring.
  • 2:30pm: the Eggman arrived at the hospital.
  • 7:30pm: Lil Chick was unaffected by the bp and it had in fact dropped enough, so I was discharged with a script for pregnancy-induced hypertension and orders for bed rest. An appt was scheduled for my bp to be rechecked Sunday morning at 9. The nurse told us to bring our bags, just in case.
Sunday, 7.18.10
  • 9am: checked in at the hospital. BP was higher than Friday, so I was admitted and the induction process began that afternoon. We were practically giddy with excitement to meet our Lil Chick!
  • Mommy's ready (?!) for the fun to begin

Daddy trying to be as empathetic as possible

Monday, 7.19.10 No Lil Chick. Zippo progression. And still only dilated less than 1cm.

Tuesday, 7.20.10 Three days and two drugs later, one drug took a long time (12 hours) to administer and was EXTREMELY painful ... still no Lil Chick.
  • 5pm: After a breaking of the waters was attempted, we opted to go home. Though it was highly disappointing to leave empty-handed, we were D.O.N.E. trying to force my sore, bloated body to do something it wasn't ready to do. Doc ordered continued bed rest and a Thursday appt to check bp. Have you ever heard of  an induction not working on someone?? Well if not, now you have. Me.
Wednesday, 7.21.10 Back at home, I rested and the Eggman spoiled me! He got up early to make sure I had everything I would need up in our room, so I didn't even have to go downstairs. He came home and checked on me at lunch. Then he relentlessly doted on me after work, as well. It wasn't rare form or anything for the Eggman, but he was amazing and I cherished every minute of it!

Thursday, 7.22.10 11am: A dear friend drove me to the doc's office, so I could be as relaxed as possible upon arrival. Nice theory, but that didn't work. BP: 190/135. BUMMER! Doc said, and I quote: If you were my wife or mother, I'd tell you that [in order to cure this increasing high blood pressure] we need to get the baby out today and since you're not dilated ... it'll have to be by c-section. After a small meltdown, I concurred and called the Eggman on the way to the hospital to relay the information. He arrived by 2pm ...bags in hand. And later that evening, our world changed forever as we welcomed this little gem into our hearts and lives!!!

Lucy Cooper Cunningham

6:55pm
6 lbs, 14 oz
19 inches long

How'd we come up with the name?
After much deliberation and with many great names on the table, one day I texted the Eggman and said, "What do you think of Lucy for this lil lady?" He responded with, "I love it!!" So, we had Lil Chick's first name.
And Cooper is in honor of my grandfather, Warren Cooper.
(Stay tuned: Pictures to come on following posts of Big Coop meeting Mini Coop!)

Nice work, Dr. Nak! Thank you for keeping us both safe!

Sunday, 7.25.10
  • 1pm: The Eggman picked up my mom (Lucy's Mia) from the airport and after a wonderful hospital stay (love the nurses and docs at Adventist .. would totally recommend them to a friend! God totally answered that prayer above and beyond my expectations), we were discharged -- this time, Lil Chick in hand!! Woo hoo!
Proud Mia, getting Lucy dressed to go home
Safety first!
Thanks for figuring out that car seat situation, Eggman
These past few weeks have been remarkable. The Eggman and I are absolutely LOVING being parents to this lil Chick. She has brightened our world like we never could have imagined. The following quote sums it up nicely:

A little girl entered our lives
and filled a special place we never knew was empty.

Until next time (which I hope will be before Christmas!!), Mama Chick out.
